“The first step to getting the things you want out of life is this; decide what you want.” – Ben Steyn

We all know that a change is as good as a holiday and makes you feel rejuvenated and new! Whether you want a make over and create a new you, want a more peaceful existence or a home -make over. Don’t find excuses like: “I don’t have the energy for that”, “I can’t afford it at the moment”, “I just don’t have the time to do it” or “We actually live such busy lives!” If you want it badly enough, you can make it happen!

How to get there? My husband always asks me: “How do you eat an elephant?” – One bite at a time. Divide big projects into smaller manageable pieces.

  • Visualise the end result, if you have a problem to visualise, collect pictures from magazines and use them for inspiration for what you want to be, do or have. You must desire the change and be committed to take action.
  • Set goals and timelines. Aren’t you amazed at yourselves at what you can achieve if you know that a visitor is coming in two weeks time, all of the sudden the room is decluttered and painted and a room with a ambiance and warmth is created in time for your visitors and you wonder why you haven’t done it earlier.
  • Organise your thoughts, make to-do notes to make your dream come true. Putting pen to paper makes your goals more attainable.
  • Keep the benefits of the change in mind and the reason why you want it, e.g. How great you will feel, how stunning your room is going to look, how much easier it will be to get tasks done.
  • Be creative with the positive attributes that you have, it doesn’t need to cost anything to make a change.
  • Get rid of mental and physical clutter, make room for the change.
  • Accept the things that you cannot change.
  • Be bold; try something different, small changes sometimes make a huge impact. E.g. Try a different colour, style or rearrange the furniture, hang a painting.
  • Get started. Don’t put off any actions – convince yourself that you can do it.
  • Get the tools and equipment to keep you on the go. If you don’t you might find an excuse not to complete the job
  • Stay focussed – Get it done! Do not leave a job half done; it will haunt you even in your subconscious.
  • Get help. If all else fails get the professionals in, be it a life coach, a painter or handyman.
  • Create habits to keep the changed space in check or the new you in shape.

Live every single day with passion and purpose no matter what your age and make your dreams come true!
